H.E. Dr Al ShaMsi joined the Federal Government in 2008 as Minister of State and she chaired the Marriage Fund till February 2016. H.E. Dr Al ShaMsi is also an Adviser for Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, Supreme President of the Family Development Foundation, and Head of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood.

H.E. Dr Al ShaMsi also contributes by taking part in local, regional and international committees such as Board of Trustees in Abu Dhabi University; contributed to the founding the University of Paris-Sorbonne University in Abu Dhabi; Member of the Advisory Council on the Arab knowledge Report; member of the UNESCO's Scientific Committee for Arab States; and a member in Follow-up Committee on Recommendations of the Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Arab World. She continues to participate in meetings at the United Nations and its organizations such as the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for West Asia (ESCWA) and UN Women to discuss issues of scientific research, women, population, migration, employment and development.
