Nirmal Kumar Sethia represents the third generation of an inspiring family of entrepreneurs. Mr Sethia began his spectacular journey at the age of 14 as a tea taster and has since collected the most extensive and valuable of tea treasures, as recorded by Guinness World Records in 2016. While tea has always been Mr Sethia's passion and calling, he was appointed as Chairman of the Sethia Group at a mere 23 years of age and was responsible for the meteoric success and presence of the Group as the largest exporters of jute in India. Today the N. Sethia Group has diversified into many trades, industries and sectors, such as security printing and banknote ink production, sugar refining, power generation, tea plantations, a unique tea packing facility and property investment.
While Mr Sethia reached great heights with his business endeavours, he also contributed to society with the N. Sethia and Chitra Foundations by extensively supporting medical and surgical research and disaster relief, educating over 40,000 girls at a post-graduate level, as well as founding a specialist autism centre. He was also instrumental in the opening of the Chitra Sethia Centre for Robotics and Minimal Access Surgery at UCL London and the Chitra Sethia Autism Centre in Cambridge, both state-of-the-art facilities and the first of their kind. Mr Sethia was honoured by the University College London in 2014 with a Fellowship in recognition of his continued support.
